Chiang Rai Airport is located on Phaholyotin Road about 10km from
downtown Chiang Rai. The airport not only provides access for tourists to
the region but also for business due to its proximity to a number of
bordering countries in the economic zone. Although it has ‘International’ in
its name and it has facilities for international flights, there are no
actual international carriers operating from this airport. Domestic
flights to/from Bangkok are regular with Thai Airways and take about 85
minutes, there are also flights every day to/from Chiang Mai that takes 40
minutes. Chiang Rai also has links to the airports of Krabi and Phuket.
Other local cut-price airlines, such as Air Asia and One-Two-Go operate
in/out of Chiang Rai airport. Taxi
Taxis provide transport to town for around 50 Baht and you can arrange a
tour of Chiang Rai and the surrounding areas with them if required. Many
hotels will provide transfer services, check with your hotel.
