Koh Samui Airport USM

Koh Samui Airport is located on the northern end of Samui Island, close to Bophut Beach and only a 20 minute drive from the popular beach of Chaweng. Built in 1989 it went public last year after 17 years of private ownership by Bangkok Airways. The design of the airport has taken the cultural and natural environments of the tropical island into consideration and it is said to be one of the most beautiful airports in the world. The low rise buildings have palm thatched roofs and are set in tropical gardens with tall coconut palms. The design has been honoured with numerous environmental awards. There are plans to meet future demand for access to the island by extending the runway. Samui Airport is unique as there is no indoor area apart from the gift shop. The airport has 2 terminals (Domestic & International).

Bangkok Airways operates more than 40 flights a day from Bangkok to Samui, Samui to Phuket, Samui to Pattaya , Samui to Krabi and Samui to Singapore.

Flying time between Bangkok and Samui is one hour, Samui to Phuket and Samui to Pattaya routes are under 45 minutes.

Taxi/Minibus

If you already have a hotel booking then you should use the pick-up service of your hotel as it will be more convenient and free. After you have collected your baggage and passed through immigration and customs make your way to the transit area and you will see many people here with placards, you should see your name or at least the name of your hotel.

If you have not made arrangements for pick up, when you arrive at the airport you will see counters that offer transport arrangements by mini buses or taxis. Inform them which beach/hotel you want to go to and they will give you a ticket which you then give to the minibus driver. Fares are fixed and depend where you want to go and which mode of transport you choose.
