Krabi International Airport is about 15km from the city centre and
40km from Ao Nang. The airport is very modern as it has only been open since
March 2006; it is also quite unique as the terminal building has been built
onto the side of a gigantic rock. On arrival at the airport you enter the
ground floor to re-claim your baggage and then take the escalator to the
first floor to exit the building. Services and facilities are improving all
the time at the airport and refreshments are now available, the departure
lounge has TV screens that show movies. As the airport is so small it is
very quick and easy to check in, pass through passport control and the other
procedures that always hold you up at larger airports.
Thai Airways operate a number of flights daily to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and
Chiang Rai and further low cost flights are available to Bangkok with budget
airlines, Air Asia, Nok Air and One-Two-Go. Plans for the future hope to
accept international flights.
Destination Air Shuttle is Thailand's only Seaplane service and operates
flights to/from Phuket to Ao Nang, Krabi and other numerous outer islands.
Taxi
'Krabi Limousine' use large sedans to transport customers to various
destinations. They have a desk inside the terminal where you can book.
They charge 500 baht to Krabi, 800 baht to Ao Nang and 2500 baht to Phuket
(phone +66 (0) 75692073).
Krabi.com provide taxi and minibus (minivans) for less, however travelers
have to make a deposit payment of 200 baht online via credit card.
If you want to get to Krabi quickly and don’t have a lot of luggage you
can pick up a motorcycle taxi ride just outside the terminal.
Car Hire
At present there are only National and Budget car rental available
within the airport. You will need a driving license to hire a car along with
your passport.
