The new automated service will effectively cut the processing time for waiting passengers who want to get a taxi at the airport.

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has seen the necessity of the state-of-the-art system to improve the auxiliary service at the airport.

The airport management will install a total of 8 kiosks at the first floor of the terminal building, specifically outside gates 4 and 7.

Under the new system, the passengers only need to hop in to the taxi right away without needing the airport staff to record manually the information related to the passengers' itinerary and the driver himself. The passengers only need to find the next taxi on cue at any of the kiosk.

The whole process takes as little as 5 seconds compared to the current system where it usually takes more than a minute for the airport staff to write down the information on a paper slip.

The system is part of the government's improvement program for its transportation infrastructure nationwide. Phuket has also implemented similar system in its airport, paving the way to the elimination of bogus taxi drivers who preyed on hapless passengers by overcharging them.

The NCPO has already obligated airport personnel to do random checks on taxi drivers to make sure they are in their best manner to welcome the visitors who take their cabs. It also wants to ensure that the units they are driving are safe and at par to international standards.

Tourism of Thailand Governor, Thawatchai Arunyik, couldn't contain his pleasure on the government's initiative to improve such facility at the country's main gateway. He added that travelers would no longer need to worry about queuing in the airport just to get a taxi.

The new system is boon not only to the travelers, but also to the taxi drivers, as they would be able to enjoy an efficient taxi management system, thus eliminating unnecessary queuing waiting to get passengers.
