Thailand Flights Exempt from AirAsia Fuel Surcharge
AirAsia, the largest budget carrier in South East Asia announced on Friday that it will be re-imposing fuel surcharges to almost all its flights. However, domestic flights in Thailand will not be subject to the increased charges.
Back in November 2008, the company abolished fuel surcharges, but have been forced to overturn this decision following the worldwide increase in fuel prices. The price of a barrel of crude oil topped $140 recently amid increasing instability in the Middle East.
Head of Commerce for AirAsia, Kathleen Tan commented: "We hope that this will only be a temporary measure, and AirAsia will continue to ensure our fares remain low despite the fuel surcharge, which is the lowest in the world."
Unaffected flights are those booked before May 3rd 2011, and domestic flights in Thailand and Indonesia.
All other flights will have fuel surcharges ranging from 10 ringgit ($3.37) to 90 ringgit ($30) for a one-way flight.
In the first quarter of 2011, the AirAsia group, including combing its Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian operations carried 7.23 million passengers, an increase of 19% compared to the same period of 2010.
