| About the airlines |
Destination Air
This is an unique airline company based in Phuket International Airport and operating a fleet of sea planes which provide short flights between south eastern destinations including the Similan Islands, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Krabi, Koh Mook and Khao Lak.
Bangkok Air
Bangkok Air offers a great service and currently has exclusive rights to use
the airport in both Koh Samui and Pattaya. Their prices tend to be a little
high, but without any competitors to certain areas it's still better than
catching the bus! Some of the flights on the small twin prop planes can be great
fun.
Nok
One of the new budget airlines in Thailand, you should check out Nok's prices
before those of the bigger companies. This is a great budget airline with its
emphasis on friendliness and providing everyone with the opportunity to fly. Air
tickets are very competitive with compared to other low cost airlines.
One-Two-Go
Thailand's first budget airline now runs 168 flights per week, with a
refreshingly simple pricing policy: all flights are the same price. Snacks are
also included in the fare - a superb service when compared to the expensive
options on other budget airlines.
PB Air
Originally formed to service the needs of a brewing company, PB Air are now
approaching their tenth birthday and looking for an alliance with Thai airways
for their internal flight services. Luckily the brewing services are kept well
away from the cockpit! PB focuses on providing flights to less popular/tourist
destinations.
SGA Airlines
’Scenic flights to charming places’ is their slogan, one of the only airlines to
offer scheduled flights to Hua Hin and Pai. They specialise in domestic flights
to airports where the runways cannot cope with larger planes. They use Cessna
208B Grand Caravan, an aircraft perfect for sight-seeing due to its low altitude
flight profile.
Thai Airways
Belonging to the Star Alliance network, Thai Airways offer a world class
domestic and international service with frequent flights to all major
destinations. They are proud to be the National Flag Carrier for the Kingdom and
committed to promoting Thailand not only as a tourist destination but also as a
venue for international conventions and other events. They are slightly more
expensive than the budget airlines.
Thai Air Asia
Part of the Air Asia network, Thai Air Asia offers a budget, reliable option
for air travel. The airline now flies to over 48 destinations and it’s slogan
'Now everyone can fly', reflects its philosophy of low fares, no frills,
frequent flights and guest convenience. No complimentary drinks or meals are
offered on the flights, but you can purchase food on board.
Phuket Air
Following on from a decline in the tourism industry after the 2004 Indian Ocean
earthquake and struggling to maintain its fleet of ageing aircraft, Phuket Air
ceased to offer domestic and international flights in 2005. Many poorly
maintained websites still display their flight details.
Air Andaman
Air Andaman's 4 year history finished in March 2006 when Thailand's Civil
Aviation Department said it was withdrawing the airline's license. | |
