THAI Celebrates 50 Years in Nepal
5th Dec 2017
Thai Airways International PLC (THAI) had a good reason to celebrate this Monday as it reached a big milestone. 50 years of operations into Nepal.
The Thailand-based carrier started flying to Nepal on 4th December, 1968 and has been operating a one flight per week until October, 1997, when it switched to daily flights due to high demand using Airbus A330-800 aircraft. In November the following year (1998), THAI introduced the Boeing B777-200 to Nepalese.
The airline will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Nepalese, as it was the first commercial carrier to introduce their, at that moment isolated country deep in the Himalayan mountains, to the rest of the world.
In 1985, THAI also became the first carrier to start using computerized reservation systems in Nepal and its capital of Kathmandu, thus providing passengers from here an easier way to travel. Before that, they had to rely on very slow bus and truck transport to get pretty much anywhere.
The carrier said it will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its operations into Nepal throughout the incoming 2018 with a series of promotional activities.

Other guests included Managing Director of Lion Travel Service Albert Pei, Thailand Trade and Economic Office Deputy Executive Director Suree Trairatananukool and other people from the travel and aviation industry of Taipei and Thailand.
