Polish Airlines flies first Warsaw to Phuket flight

8th Nov 2022

Phuket Airport

Yesterday, Phuket International Airport received its first LOT Polish Airlines flight. The flight from Warsaw to Phuket carried 252 people.

This comes after news of the arrival of the initial flight from Uzbekistan to Phuket on Sharq Airlines, which transported 238 people.

As of October 26, the number of overseas visitors visiting Thailand had surpassed 7 million. It puts the nation within the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) target range of 7 million to 10 million tourists for 2022. According to reports, Phuket International Airport is the second busiest port of entry, behind Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

In September, the TAT reported that Malaysians were this year's largest tourist group in Thailand. India, Laos, and Cambodia attracted the next highest number of visitors.

Last month, Thai tourism authorities declared that they were attempting to attract more visitors from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. After Thailand expanded its Visa on Arrival from 15 to 30 days on October 1, Minister of Tourism Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn noted that Kazakh and Uzbek visitors began to exhibit interest. In the first eight months of this year, 2,496 Uzbek travellers arrived in Thailand. This year, the Tourism Ministry expected 8,500 visitors.

By the end of this year, TAT aims to attract 10 million international visitors to the "Land of Smiles." We will shortly determine if this objective has been met.
