VietJet Air - General Information
VietJet Air is Vietnam's first privately-owned carrier as well as the first and largest low-cost airline to be based in the country.
Though established in 2007, thus becoming the country's first privately-owned airline, VietJet Air started its maiden operations only in December 2011 after a series of delays. As a result, it is only the second private airline to serve the domestic market after Air Mekong launched its own first domestic service in 2010.
Lion Air's first commercial flight commenced on December 25, 2011 from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi, making it the first domestic service for the carrier. In February 2013, it launched its first international flight to Bangkok, Thailand from its main hub in Ho Chi Minh. In June of this year, it launched another service to Bangkok, this time, originating from Hanoi.
VietJet Air is owned by Sorvico Holdings which currently hold their head office in Ho Chi Minh City and a regional office in Hanoi.
Aside from Hanoi and its main hub of Ho Chi Minh, the airline's domestic route network includes Buon Ma Thuot, Da Lat, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Hue, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Vinh.
VietJet Air has a current fleet of 8 aircraft, all of which are A320s.
